The Ultimate Unreal Engine 2D Game Development Course

This course will teach you strong fundamentals of Unreal Engine, Paper 2D and PaperZD by walking you through how to create 4 different games. We start out with a simple 1 button minigame using only static sprites and then move our way up to creating a masher game using animated flipbooks and a simple enemy AI. The next projects is a 2D platformer also introducing platforming mechanics and patrolling enemies and to finish things off we create a 2.5D side scroller with melee combat and some metroidvania elements.

The first 2 projects are 2D games only using sprites, while the last projects is a 2D|3D Hybrid mixing 2D Sprites for the characters with a 3D environment making use of Unreal Engine's cutting edge lighting and post processing.

This course will take you through all the stages of making a 2D Action Platformer in Unreal Engine 5. We'll start by setting up a 2D character that can move around and jump and over time create more advanced abilities such as shooting projectiles, wall jumping and sliding. You'll also learn how to create different enemy types in an efficient manner and how to create a full stage using tile maps.
